A Band for Every Student
BEGINNER RECORDER ENSEMBLE Mandy Milne, Director
Open to students 8-10 years old, this class provides an introduction to basic music theory, ensemble playing, and general music education. It’s a great way for young students to get their feet wet playing an instrument without the expense of renting one. Students enjoy their first performances in the Winter and Spring concerts.
BEGINNER BAND Mandy Milne, Director
No experience necessary! Students as young as 10 years of age are enthusiastically instructed from square one, helping them develop their fledgling music abilities playing their very own instrument. Private lessons are helpful, but not necessary.
CADET BAND Mandy Milne, Director
With a years’ worth of experience under their belts, Cadet Band students are ready to step it up with more challenging music. They continue to gain performance experience playing in both the Winter and Spring concerts.
APPRENTICE BAND Bruce Smith, Director
This band serves as a transitional step from Cadet Band into Concert Band. Students join concert band for the first time and learn from older students as well as our select adult players how a larger ensemble functions. “Easier” Concert Band pieces are rehearsed allowing Apprentice Band students to gain confidence and proficiency on their instrument.
CONCERT BAND Bruce Smith, Director
Designed for the more advanced student musician, Concert Band students learn ensemble pieces that expand their musicianship. Concert Band members are joined by several adult musicians who are excellent models for the students. Seasonal and outreach concerts mark the highlight of the year.
JAZZ BAND Bruce Smith, Director
This band really swings! Advanced musicians play pieces with more complicated jazz rhythm. Many students play in both Jazz and Concert Bands.
